antique automobile: in the summer of 2001, hill climber was repainted to its original white color scheme with its original sponsor, the "mcrorie - sautter" pontiac-oakland dealership name on the sides. the pontiac chief head profile and the slogan, "pontiac, chief of the sixes" were restored to the rear sides of the rear deck. simple leather covered seat cushions and wooden artillery wheels bring the car back to its original race configuration. landvoigt and his wife lois accentuate this classic period piece by dressing the part in 1920s-era garb. documentation of the history of the 1926 pontiac hill climber was certified by the antique automobile club of america in 1999.
antique automobile: amagine being in a major car accident in your antique automobile. not a vw but thoes huge metal ones with all the curves i think they might be a 40's ford or chevrolet. the worst part is you couldn't avoid that accident because the car you are driving didn't have sufficient brakes for modern driving conditions... and not only that but you have no seatbelt! the amount of money you put into your antique is now irrelevant because you and your family have all died the day you took your dinasour age ford to the freeway and totalled it. a car designed when safety wassn't an issue... :-( just awfull antique automobile: well, let's see. i think the event organizers were consciously trying to stay with a 25 year-old cutoff due to the show's "antique" theme ("antique," per antique automobile club of america, is defined as any model that's 25 years old or older; not coincidentally, the vintage vw club of american defines "vintage" the same way). if you look at the car show's main web page, most, if not all of the classes this year have a 1978 model year cut off. i agree that it would be nice to be able to have later model vws participate, but i'm only the class sponsor, not the show's organizer. presumably the 1979s will be welcomed at time machines 2004... antique automobile: so we are still the studebaker drivers club and i think that allowances should be made for cars actually driven to the event. i know that the antique automobile folks don't do it like that but they are not the antique automobile drivers club. if in order to win the judging a car must be trailered then the sdc needs to change its name. and then those of us who do drive to meets can organize a group that judges cars in a different way, possibly peoples' choice. joe (i know this opinion will piss off a lot of folks) roberts antique automobile: "motor trend" magazine does an nice job of occassionally throwing in articles on "antique" cars. waht other "trend" were you refering? thye use the same highway as the one i drive on and require the same operators permit to do so. in some states they do get those neat "antique automobile", or other "vanity" tag. | |
