antique bicycle: i do have a rideable antique bicycle similar to this, it gets about 10 miles of use a week for the past 6 years. other than tires and lubrication it remains as found. the tires are 1 1/2" wide and inflated to 45psi. the 36 spokes are locked to the nipples by corrosion, and will probably eventually fail from lost material due to rust. despite frequent curb drops the wheels appear straight with no hops. a complete front wheel and tire tips the scales at over 6-1/2 lb.
antique bicycle: hey bob, here's one more. i have a 1938 machine called pedal pushers.it's the last pin o.d.jennings manufactured.i have no idea where there could be another or how many they made.mine needs a playfield and is not playable yet.it needs a lot of mechanical work.plus,someone decided to paint some of it with oil based house paint.but the backglass and cabinet are great.i found it at an antique store.if anyone out there has a playfield, please let me know.pedal pushers is all bicycle racing.to belguim,england,france,germany and in the usa. i guess i could always take some pics
antique bicycle: in fact stress relieving rolf wheels is simpler than other wheels by the proximity of left and right spokes in pairs. pressing these pairs together laterally is the way i would do it especially in a mechanized wheel building machine. i haven't bothered with paired spoke wheels, a gimmick first seen about 1878, judging from antique bicycle photographs.
