antique boat: on a different topic - i'm starting to plan what antique boat shows and other events we want to do this summer. the antique & classic boat society has a nice list of shows at this link. we're thinking of going to the july 30 show in skaneatles ny, maybe the aug 6th show in clayton ny, and maybe some of the ones in upstate ny in august. anyone who has info on these shows or might want to meet up at some let me know.
antique boat: the first paragraph that mr. gardner writes concerning the flattie says a lot. however, if you're convinced that building an "antique" boat is what you want to do, then have at it. just remember that this boat was designed for builders well over a hundred years ago, long before plywood and epoxy and these days there are better ways to build boats like this.
antique boat: one of the things that worry me is assuming i'm in neutral, only to find out that the boat is really in gear, and slowly moving towards damage to mine or another boat. (this actually happened to us at the westport yacht club antique boat show two summers ago. a very nice older gentleman was giving rides to non-boaters in his new hacker craft runabout. somehow, while unloading and loading up again, the boat slipped into, or was inadvertently left in, gear. the boat started backing out of the slip, to be caught by the driver and dock hand, but he broke his own windshield. i was heartbroken).

antique boat: i have also heard that the adirondack museum in bml is a must see. i hear they have a lot of old wood adirondack guide boats and cedar strip canoes. i was up in clayton (thousand islands) a couple of weeks ago and visited the antique boat museum there and it was pretty cool.
