antique car part: a friend of the family sells *really* hard to find antique car parts (as well as antique cars....and all kinds of nifty things). this guy from ny drove up cuz he got wind that this friend had a certain car part that he'd been looking for for *years* to finish restoring an antique car. well, the guy drove up asking if he had the part and our friend went in the back and got him one (in the original box, even!). a soon as he came out with the part, the guy asked how much. he was quoted an *amazingly* reasonable price (i think it was under $20.......and this is a part that couldn't be found *anywhere*). the guy immediately started trying to talk him down to $10 (or something....i can't remember the exact numbers). ray listened for a few seconds and dropped the part on the ground. then he stepped on it and broke it. he turned to the guy and said "ok....there ya go. that's the $10 version."
antique car part: i want you to jump into it......taking no tools or knowledge of how to fix it along with you.......and drive that car.....across the usa.....just like chevrolet....."see the usa in your chevrolet"....if it breaks down....your stuck..and you can pay "interstate tow charges" and "interstate rates" for repair of your antique car..........now i want you to answer one question.....given the above......just how much preperation and restoration are you going to do to this car before you start out your trip?.... #1..just baling wire together the stuff thats falling off of it?..... #2..no baling wire here....put in a "few new parts" that are already failing? #3..rebuild the entire car.....engine/tranny/rear end...lights/brakes..the works! antique car part: why not - an antique car is still part of our heritage - it just happens not to be a part in which you are interested in pursuing the moral aspects of distruction of that heritage. it looks like a perfectly good analogy to me. both things are owned. -- mark browne antique car part: the above works .... i have been a full time restorer of radios for close to 10 years ... we now do 2 (two) antique car auction shows per year.... one in early may and the other over labor day week... one is a 3 day show.. the other a 6 day show... i also have a website.. since i am also a ham radio nut... we also do the dayton hamfest... sell some wooden radios .. and a way to get rid of the ham stuff we don't want that always seems to collect .... notice i so far didn't mention e-bay ... i sell sometimes... junk and parts.. and stuff i don't want there... but have never managed to be able to sell any of our restored radios there... they don't last long enough for me to get an excess of them ... i have two of my friends that are now restoring some chassis for us on a part-time basis ... and still have a backlog of work thats about 6 months... don't think i ever posted any radios for sale in this newsgroup other than some rare finds that i didn't want myself and thought someone in the group might want... antique car part: amagine being in a major car accident in your antique automobile. not a vw but thoes huge metal ones with all the curves i think they might be a 40's ford or chevrolet. the worst part is you couldn't avoid that accident because the car you are driving didn't have sufficient brakes for modern driving conditions... and not only that but you have no seatbelt! the amount of money you put into your antique is now irrelevant because you and your family have all died the day you took your dinasour age ford to the freeway and totalled it. a car designed when safety wassn't an issue... :-( just awfull | |
