antique desk: how many antique experts have seen harry potter, the movie? well, in the classroom of professor mcgonagall (maggie smith, always dressed in green if that helps) there is an antique table of some sort. i will supply a picture, if you haven't seen the movie, but i would like to know what kind of desk it is and how i may find out where to buy a desk similar to it.
antique desk: does anyone happen to know the trick here... i have an antique banker desk (not the roll-top kind). the top drawer on either side is locked (not with a key) and, naturally, my checkbook is one of the drawers. this has happened a million times, but has always seemed to work itself out without my realizing what i did to get the drawers unlocked.... any ideas on the trick? i've opend & closed all of the other drawers. i'm at a loss! please help asap! thanks so much! antique desk: do you own an antique rolltop desk, perhaps missing the flexible wood door that pulls down to cover the desktop? i have such a wood door (also known as a tambour) that was removed from an antique desk. this tambour was made to fit a four-foot wide golden oak s-roll top desk. comprised of golden oak strips, the canvas backing needs replacement (a furniture restorer can do this easily). the locking mechanism is intact although a small metal plate (escutcheon) that surrounds the lock is missing (reproduction parts are readily available). the tambour finish is original and in fair condition. ideally, the tambour would be installed and the entire desk refinished. this antique tambour is a hard to find item and deserves to once again be part of a beautiful rolltop desk. contact me for price and additional details. antique desk: i post from my study, seated at the antique desk which is bound with green leather, the veneered area waxed until it reflects a mirror image of the crystal whisky glass standing on a silver coaster at my elbow. three walls are covered in bookcases from ceiling to floor, the first editions held in a section protected by decorated glass. at the touch of a finger, part of one wall swings away, opening into a passageway lined with dusty bottles in a regimented row of bins, and a slight shiver shakes my old bones as the chill reaches out from the cellar. the tick of the old grandfather clock in one corner is almost inaudible to me, such is my familiarity with it's slow, measured beat. antique desk: so my grandpop's desk (antique) is a giant pile of stuff. was. today it isn't such a zoo i can actually see the red wood. antique desk. luckily when my mother passed away i stashed in a friends basement. so after the "destruction" and living in the woods and the loss of "everything"? i still have this big ole, fold down leaf, antique desk that was my grandfathers. neat heh? | |
