antique diamond ring: but, if you aren't dead-broke and can afford to spend a little, you could do what i did: when i got engaged to my wife, we went to a local mom-and-pop jeweler that we knew gets old jewelry from estate sales- we found an absolutely lovely and interesting antique diamond ring from the turn of the century. the cut of the diamond is very unique, as is the setting. we haven't seen anything similar anywhere. and we got it for a few hundred, including getting it cleaned up and resized to fit. a real steal compared to what a mainstream jeweler would sell something comparable in weight for. if it turned out that it was a piece of glass (which it isn't), it still wouldn't matter. also, it's fun to speculate about the romance that may have been going on between the previous couple that had the ring, 100 years ago.

antique diamond ring: i was at the jeweler this weekend getting a sizer put into my wedding ring (i'd lost a fair amount of weight, and it was falling off). i saw an antique-reproduction ring in the window that i fell in love with. it's platinum, squarish-shaped with a diamond that lays flat in the middle, and embellished on each side with designwork and a diamond chip. i've always wanted a ring like that...i'd thought i would inherit one, but that's a long story. anyway, in spite of the extravagence, i put it on, it was beautiful, and i bought it.

antique diamond ring: bought a little ring from *bay right after christmas.it was advertised as 'antique platinum 1/2 carat champagne diamond' and it was incredibly reasonable. i told myself that if i used the proceeds from the sell of a box lot of old sewing junk ,i would *really* only have $7 invested. so i took a chance on the 'too good to be true' auction and i was very pleased when it arrived and was much nicer than the photo. was even more pleased when my friend the jeweler pronounced it to be the real thing and fairly pricey. but here's the problem: if i don't clean it about every three days the underside gets sort of cloudy, almost like its growing mold. i've tried swishing it around in alcohol, bathroom mildew cleaner, dish detergent. cleans up beautiful, but so far the mystery scum comes back. has anyone else ever heard of anything like this? it certainly doesn't effect the beauty of the stone, and i figure i paid less than the cost of a platinum setting, anyway. but it sure is strange. janice

antique diamond ring: again, i can't be sure from the photos, but the side diamonds look rather like little natural uncut diamond crystals. this would be consistant with some current designer deciding to create a rustic or antique look using such parts, and conbined with the somewhat crude hand engraving on the sides of the ring, i'd guess that this is what you've got. i doubt that the ring is more than 20 years old, though of course i cannot be sure at all. just my guess.
