antique glass: offering a pair of smaller antique lamp shades up for auction on ebay. they are ending in about 4 1/2 hours (it is now friday, 8:45pm est). highly unusual hand-made pair. metal ribs of shades are wrapped entirely by fine wire threaded through tiny smooth glass beads. (there is a chance the beads may be nacre or mother of pearl but i don't think so.) intricate. beads are all round but the widths and some shapes vary. most range about 2mm - 2 1/2mm or smaller. iridescent tint to the beads when turned certain ways. different colored bulbs light up the shades entirely with the same color. beautiful. measurements of shades are approx. 4 1/2" tall with a 3" top and 6" bottom diameter. both shades appear to have no missing beads. absolutely beautiful example of finely-made antique craftsmanship. bidding is at $14.99. no reserve. ebay no. 2056091033. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayisapi.dll?viewitem&item=2056091033

antique glass: owensboro, ky. jan. 3 — police charged a woman friday with stealing 50 antique glass eyes from a hospital display case on christmas eve. melissa jane wink, 36, of owensboro, was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $300.
antique glass: depends on how much you wish to spend. i personally think "antique" glass objects from around 1900 are the most beautiful. they are colored glasses using in various ways, in including lamps. antique shops will carry this kind of older glass. we have a couple of tiffany bowls from that period which have a golden iridescent sheen to them. there some modern near reproductions of this type of coloration. these are collectables and unfortunately command higher prices than simple gifts.
