antique hardware: since my experience was on antique hardware (e45) with several external disk arrays (antique too) i did not bother making a call to hp since i know their answer (by new hardware). the only reason for /usr to be on a non-root volumegroup was for the data size of the internal disks.
antique hardware: here in la we have a wonderful store that i love to visit. liz's hardware. she seems to have just about everything and in massive quantities. they had buckets of chandelier crystals, bakelite handles and knobs, old lamps and any other type of household hardware one could imagine. i just bought a pair of cast brass drawer pulls there for $75. antique hardware sure ain't cheap! i always check for hardware at estate sales - some people were so good about keeping it all tucked away in labled cigar boxes and jars. i have gathered a few interesting pieces over the past few years. i'm hoping she'll do a trade for the next set of pulls i have my eye on! antique hardware: think 10 years down the road when used o300 machines are being sold for $5/lb and support for the hardware in irix 6.5.38 is being phased out and deprecated, wouldn't it be nice to have a modern self-supported os to run on this cute antique hardware? antique hardware: so right now i am stuck. i'd really love to restore the original hardware, but i have no way to attach them securely. does anybody have any suggestions about where i might be able to find replacement screws? i need 16 of them. or maybe somebody can think of another way to securely attach the pulls? i have called and emailed a number of antique hardware sites, but nobody seems to know what i am talking about. modern hardware stores (etc.) carry 8-32 and (rarely) 8-36 but not 8-24. i might even be willing to pay to have custom screws made, if i could find somebody that would do it. antique hardware: my wife has gone through much turmoil with her pc at work. they've spent *thousands* on "repairers" tracking down stupid problems on antique hardware. the data was not an issue either (she's religious about backing up important data). dumb, dumb, dumb. | |
