antique price guide: i feed my family through my business of buying & selling collectible & antique guns. i use the better price guides every day, both as a guide to buying and in pricing my inventory to sell. obviously, when buying, i offer a percentage of what i think/hope i can resell the gun for. i also write for several price guides. here's what i use & my comments:
antique price guide: the other price guides or publications using values that i don't use or recommend (at least for researching values) include gun traders guide, antique guns, and modern gun values. altho these may have improved in recent years, they always seemed to me to be more a "wish book" illustrating a limited number of guns with some general retail values than true price guides. the same could be said of gun digest & shooters bible, which don't really pretend to be price guides, and are enjoyable for their own other merits.
antique price guide: actually a couple of questions to ask. first of all, is there any radio price guide in print that give prices for canadian radios? it seems as if the authors of all the price guides only care about american sets, with the lone exception of addison (since most of them are catalin, of course). i'd like to see a book which gives info, prices, and some pictures for well-known canadian brands, particularly marconi and northern electric. i think it's sad that these companies, which were just as prolific as many us companies, are all but ignored by the price guides. i see a lot of marconi and ne sets and it would be nice to have a guide book to look them up in. second question: where can i find previous issues of the collectors guide to antique radios? i have the 4th and 5th editions, but would like to have the complete set. mostly i just want to look at the photos (unique to each edition) in the earlier ones. i looked around on the internet, including ebay, but couldn't find any sources. thanks.
antique price guide: that's it! forgot to mention in my first reply. the "price guides" are invaluable resources for identifying and obtaining data for radios. that's how i use them, and i have many. i have the fifth edition antique radio guide (as well as all previous editions). well worth the price. as a matter of fact, previous editions have now become "collectable". enjoy. bob
