antique watch: what i do know: 14ct gold ladies pocket watch (14ct? - it says 14k on the case so i'm assuming it's 14ct) key wound jewelled movement. (similar to this one http://www.antique-watch.com/img4/w1465a.jpg) inscribed with what appears to be a 'rabbit' or 'hare' style hallmark (swiss?) appears to have a part number of 118604(?) various cleaners marks
antique watch: does the piece itself have to ba an antique, or is it just going with an antique watch. if you're interested more in look than historicity, many people, myself included, can make almost any style you want. aaron
antique watch: try internet pages like these : http://www.antiquewatchco.com/html/pockets.html http://www.antique-watch.com/ http://www.bogoff.com/ for information. eduard eppner lived from 1812 to 1887, and with his brother produced high quality watches. i have not seen one, but his clocks go for a lot of money when they come up. sites like these are organizations that might give you some information http://www.antique-horology.org/ http://www.historyofwatches.com/antique_watches.html http://www.nawcc.org/ these people collect and might be able to point you towards a place to get a good appraisal. be prepared to pay for it.
antique watch: watch the antiques roadshow and see how the value drops on the chippendale chest of drawers that someone refinished. refinished the value dropped by 2/3, just made my stomach queasy that someone washed away $100,000 (if i recall correctly) worth of 'dirt'. ack!!
antique watch: oh, you can definitely get some good stuff by just leaving an ebay proxy bid without strategizing. it depends on what you are after, and who the other bidders are. it would appear, for instance, that 100 year old watch bands long divorced from their watches, with fittings not suited to attaching to modern watches, don't pull a lot of competitive bidding. the market is the rare soul such as myself who has a couple of running 100 year old watches that have outlived their original bands, and antique watch dealers/collectors, who aren't willing to bid above wholesale, because they want to make money on resales. i, on the other hand, very much wanted two bands to go on my two watches to wear, and was willing to bid $10 or $15 more for the pleasure, so probably no snipe was needed - i would have made off with them on fairly straightforward hand-done bidding.
