clay pot craft: if you really like those pots, when you have the plants out and drying, is there any way you could drill a hole in them? those little hand held craft drills work great for that, i have a clay pot that has been carved into a braided knot work by one, and have used them to add holes in the sides for orchid pots.
clay pot craft: substrate, lighting and fake plants are more for your enjoyment than for your fish. the gravel sold at your lfs is safe for your fish but if you look around in craft stores you can find stuff that will work as well and save you money. i have used glass marbles and river rocks in my tank (in fact my daughter still uses them) in the past before i got into live plants. lighting is nice but not a must unless you plan on keeping live plants in which case your expense will go up. my daughter uses her fish tank as a night light in her room and her lighting is nothing more than the hood and cheap bulb that came with the tank. fake plants and other decorations are also for your enjoyment but they also add some security to your fish. you can make these your self with some yarn and an old clay pot can be used. ceramics can be used if they are lead free (if in doubt don't use) for some added colour. clay pot craft: the way i use soil in one of my tanks was pretty easy to set up. i went to the local cheap craft store (garden ridge). bought a bunch of small clay pots. got some 100% silicone sealant from the hardware store and a caulking gun. sealed the drain holes in the pots. poured a very small bit of iron sulphate in the bottom of the pot (use very sparingly), then put 100% top soil in the pot to about a couple inches from the top. planted the plant ( or a bunch, depending on the plant) and then covered the soil with a couple inches of small gravel. works like a charm. easy to re-arrange things, and not too shabby to look at either. also easy to vacum the bottom of the tank at cleaning time. clay pot craft: when ready to cook, drain the hens, and reserve the marinade. combine all the ingredients for the stuffing and stuff the hens. pour the reserved marinade into a saucepan and cook under high heat, stirring constantly until marinade is reduced to half its original quantity. presoak clay pot, top and bottom, in water for 15 minutes. place hens in the clay pot and pour the reduced marinade over them. place coverd pot in a cold oven. set temprature to 480 degrees. cook 45 minutes. 5 minutes before hens are done, remove clay pot frm the oven and pour off the liquid into a saucepan. return the pot, uncovered, to the oven for the final 5 minutes of cooking. meanwhile, bring the liquid to a boil and thicken with arrowroot, then add craft the curacao and return to a boil. serve the sauce over the hens. clay pot craft: soak lid of glazed clay cooker. swirl melted butter in the bottom of the pot. in a bowl mix well all ingredients except consomme and cabbage leaves. divide mixture among leaves and wrap up. put into clay cooker. pour consomme craft over cabbage rolls. cover and place in cold oven. turn temperature to 425f and bake for 80 minutes. | |
