rustic lamp: i'd like to buy some lamps for a window room on the back of my house. everybody calls it my bird room because it's where i watch my back yard and my feeders and birdbath. i started buying large scale furniture but i need some lighting that isn't dinky. does anyone know where i can get lamps (floor and table) that look like trees? i got a small one for my desk from national wildlife but they don't have a floor lamp. i'm not looking for rustic. not necessarily wood. something that looks like a tree or branch. birds on it would be great.
rustic lamp: 2. i did blacksmithing for many years. shortly before i had to quit (bad shoulders wouldn't let me hammer) i bought a cheap wood lathe thinking that i would turn some wooden handles to go on fireplace sets. when i finally had to recognize that i couldn't do blacksmithing anymore, i decided to use that lathe to make some useful things. i forged a set of tools and started turning lamps for all of the girls in the family. they were fun, but didn't really hook me until i turned my first bowl about 1989. then i was hooked. by the way it was a very bad bowl, but sold at my first craft fair. it was rustic.
rustic lamp: our part of town was without power for about 10 hours yesterday. the substation that serves our area took a lightening hit, of all things, and was "completely fried" in the words of the utility dispatcher my husband spoke to. we had to break out the coleman gas lantern and put a fire in the fireplace last night. we all slept in the big bed, including the cats. talk about de ja vu! we did the family bed thing until our son was three and its a rare event indeed for him to sleep with us these days. i spun for two hours last night by lamp- and firelight using my old antique saxony-style wheel. i felt quite "rustic" *lol*
