rustic log furniture: i've designed and am getting ready to build a set of custom bedroom furniture, including a tall set of bunk beds, out of fairly large timbers - - nominal 4x6's for the uprights & 2x6's for the rails, etc. while this won't be "log" furniture, i want to use one of the light-colored "rustic" woods typically used in making log beds - - aspen, lodgepole pine, or one of the cedars. i'd also consider ash. any suggestions on which type of wood would be the best choice, and where i might source lumber of that size in the southern california area?
rustic log furniture: i'm trying to find stick furniture or log furniture pics on the net. purely to get some inspiration on what can be built - rustically... being a craftsman but not an artist means that sometimes one needs a bit of help when it comes to design. one more thing... how can i bleach commercial "sticks" that have been treated to deter bugs - they have a sick green color to them. (may even ebonise them) last - when using cutters - how do you set up or make jigs or measuring when making stick furniture. how do you cut your tenons so that things eventually "line-up" - i know some folks use epoxy glue when assembling purely because the rustic techiques are not always very accurate and epoxy helps in taking up the discrepancies in angles etc. snoggerboy@hotmail.com

rustic log furniture: me too. i recently have had the good fortune of finding some new books in my local library on "rustic" - both furniture and housing (architecture). seems it's currently in vogue - rustic housing and furniture. but on a scale that is incredibly contemporary. i guess all those dying trees "out west" that are dying due to the effects of drought and insect infestation are providing a wealth of building materials for those interested in log houses and adirondack-style furnishings. i find much of it much too "heavy" for my taste - overdone.
